As mentioned in a previous article, SETIN was contracted to draft the Project Preparation Grant (PPG) of the “Micronesia: Tourism Support for Biodiversity Conservation” GEF Child Project, with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as the GEF Agency. This Child Project is developed under the GEF funded Blue and Green Islands Integrated Program (BGI IP).
The Project takes for its point of departure the untapped potential of the country’s tourism sector. It aims to protect and improve ecosystems and livelihoods in Yap and Kosrae states of Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), by creating an enabling and conducive environment for the integration of nature into the tourism sector through revised national and state fiscal investment planning, as well as financial policies that support Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and its incorporation into PA management effectiveness. This Child Project in FSM is based on the aspirational hypothesis that the tourism sector should not only be benign to the environment, but more importantly, have a net positive impact on the country’s natural habitats and their ecosystem services.
SETIN successfully delivered the first full early draft of the BGI IP FSM child project’s ProDoc and annexures on March 25th.
