Successful kick-off meeting of the PPG phase for the GEF project “Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions to Enhance the Climate Resilience of Communities and Ecosystems in the Himalayan Region of Nepal”

SETIN is pleased to announce the successful kick-off meeting of the Project Preparation Grant (PPG) phase for the GEF-funded initiative “Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions to Enhance the Climate Resilience of Communities and Ecosystems in the Himalayan Region of Nepal.”

This initiative aims to strengthen the climate resilience of vulnerable communities in the Mustang District through the implementation of appropriate Nature-based Solutions (NbS). A key outcome is the empowerment of local and traditional institutions to design, finance, and implement NbS tailored to mountainous ecosystems.

Through an inclusive and participatory process, the project will support the development and strengthening of agroforestry-based value chains, while reinforcing climate-resilient livelihoods and sustainable ecosystem management.

In addition to a whole-of-society approach, the project adopts a whole-of-government strategy that seeks to identify policy entry points for NbS integration, dismantle institutional silos, and promote effective collaboration across all levels of government, civil society, academia, and the private sector.

The project is structured around four main components:

  1. Assessments and Analytics
  2. Capacity Enhancement
  3. NbS Implementation and Value Chain Development
  4. Communications and Knowledge Management

SETIN is leading the development of the full IUCN-GEF project documentation package, including the CEO Endorsement Request and all required annexes, through a technically robust and consultation-driven process.

The first in-country mission is scheduled for July 2025.

This milestone marks a crucial step in advancing ecosystem-based adaptation and sustainable development in one of the world’s most climate-sensitive regions.
