In March 2025, SETIN completed and delivered the Design Verification documentation for the Executive Design of the expansion works of Molo Norimberga in the Port of Messina. The assignment was carried out by SETIN’s Alessandro Piazzi and Riccardo Leone.

The project will increase the operational capacity of the port through the construction of a new quay. It also covers the associated maritime and plant engineering works, drainage and stormwater treatment systems, electrical and fire protection installations, and provisions for future bunkering activities.

SETIN carried out the verification service in accordance with Article 50, paragraph 1, letter b) of Legislative Decree 36/2023. The work involved reviewing a wide range of technical, administrative and economic documents to confirm that the Executive Design was complete, consistent and compliant with current regulations, the required performance standards and the objectives established by the Contracting Authority.

The review examined how the different parts of the design worked together, from drawings and specialist reports to calculations, bills of quantities and the project schedule. It also considered whether the proposed works could be effectively constructed and taken forward to tender.

Attention was given to potential design criticalities and to the correct integration of regulatory, environmental and safety requirements. Based on this analysis, SETIN prepared the verification reports needed to support the subsequent project validation process.

By bringing together the different technical components into a clear and structured review, SETIN helped strengthen the quality and reliability of the project documentation. This work supports the development of an important infrastructure for the future of the Port of Messina.
