National inception workshops have now been conducted in Tonga, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, following the earlier delivery of the Inception Reports.
These workshops mark the completion of the inception phase and an important step forward in the BIOFIN process across the six Pacific Island countries.
The inception phase is essential for adapting the BIOFIN methodology to each national context. It creates a shared understanding of the objectives, stakeholders, available information, institutional arrangements and validation process that will guide the work ahead.
Across the six countries, the process combines technical rigour with meaningful stakeholder participation, keeping national priorities, knowledge and institutional realities at its core.
The team supporting this work includes Kate Davey, Environmental Specialist, and John Bohorquez, Team Leader for Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Tonga, together with Dr. Emmanuel J. Iyabora in Solomon Islands, Sione Fulivai in Tonga and Yvette Tari in Vanuatu; Giacomo Cozzolino, Team Leader for the Federates States of Micronesia (FSM), Republic of Palau and Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI), Ana Catarina Mota, Environmental Specialist, Lorena Piccinini, gender and social specialist and technical coordinator, toghether with Stefania Pozzi in RMI and Roseo Marquez in FSM.
With the inception phase completed, the next milestone will be the validation of the Policy and Institutional Review. This first analytical phase will examine how biodiversity is reflected in policies, institutions, budgeting processes and existing finance mechanisms.
Building on the foundations established through the Inception Reports and national workshops, the process now moves forward into the analytical phase, with each country’s context remaining at the heart of the work.
