#Project – new assignment
Six Pacific Island countries are taking an important step towards strengthening the financing of their biodiversity priorities.
SETIN has begun supporting the development of national Biodiversity Finance Plans in the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Palau.
The assignment is being implemented under UNDP’s Pacific BIOFIN Umbrella Programme and follows the BIOFIN methodology. Its purpose is to support each country in identifying practical ways to mobilize and manage the financial resources needed to achieve national biodiversity priorities.
Working with UNDP BIOFIN, national counterparts and key stakeholders, SETIN’s team will review the policies, institutions and financial mechanisms that affect biodiversity. The work will also analyze current biodiversity-related expenditure, assess financial needs and identify priority finance solutions adapted to each national context.
The process combines technical analysis with stakeholder engagement and national validation. Local ownership, inclusive participation and gender-responsive biodiversity finance will be central throughout the assignment.
Over the coming months, SETIN will share updates and key milestones from this work across the Pacific.
