The kick-off meeting, held on 18th November 2025, marked the start of a new assignment for SETIN, focused on the development of the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) National Action Plan (NAP) and four State Action Plans (SAPs) for Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN), supported by GIS-based mapping in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The assignment will be delivered in close collaboration with the Project Management Unit, UNDP, and the National and State counterparts, ensuring strong ownership and alignment with the GEF-7 project “Securing Climate-Resilient Sustainable Land Management and Progress Towards Land Degradation Neutrality in the Federated States of Micronesia”.
Within this framework, the present assignment will deliver a National Action Plan and four State Action Plans for SLM and LDN. These plans will be designed through a participatory process, supported by GIS-based mapping, baseline assessments, and capacity development, to ensure realistic and measurable LDN targets by 2030 and contribute to SDGs 2, 14 and 15.
A core component of the consultancy is the GIS and mapping work, which will directly contribute by supporting the development of spatial data products, strengthening information systems, and enhancing national and state-level GIS capacities. These efforts will inform land-use planning and support the identification and implementation of sustainable land management interventions.
Overall, the NAP and SAPs will align with existing national and international commitments while providing an operational roadmap for strengthening institutional frameworks, empowering communities, and securing long-term resilience for the Federated States of Micronesia.
