SETIN is moving forward with the Project Preparation Grant (PPG) documentation for the implementation of the GEF-8 project “Mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions to enhance the climate resilience of communities and ecosystems in the Himalayan Region of Nepal”, coordinated by IUCN.
At the beginning of December 2025, SETIN supported two dedicated in-person meetings held in Jomsom and Pokhara, in Nepal’s Gandaki Province, bringing together IUCN Nepal, government counterparts, rural municipalities, the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and community representatives, including women’s groups and local leaders. These sessions marked an important milestone, as the ongoing PPG work received formal validation and endorsement from participating stakeholders.
Beyond validating progress, the meetings provided valuable space for in-depth technical exchange, alignment on key priorities, and discussion of practical pathways to ensure the project delivers meaningful, long-term benefits. Building on the insights and recommendations shared during these discussions, SETIN is continuing the work in a structured and coordinated manner, ensuring full coherence with IUCN’s guidance and maintaining strong alignment with local needs and institutional capacities.
The project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of Himalayan communities and ecosystems by mainstreaming Nature-based Solutions (NbS), supported by a robust approach to assessment, communication, management, and capacity enhancement at multiple levels.
SETIN’s team for this assignment includes Sushila Nepali (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion National Specialist) and Yadav Kandel (Climate Adaptation and Forestry National Specialist), who participated in the in situ meetings, alongside the office-based team composed of Daniel Bazzucchi (Team Leader), Ana Catarina Mota (Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist), Giacomo Cozzolino (Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Finance Specialist), and Viola Fonnesu (Task Manager).
